I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ not pray any voluntary prayer before or after it while traveling.
حدثنا يحيى عن ابن أبي ذئب حدثني عثمان بن سراقة سمعت
رأيت رسول الله ﷺ لا يصلي في السفر قبلها ولا بعدها
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Uthman bin Suraqa is Uthman bin Abdullah bin Suraqa bin Mutamir. In Ibn Saad 5:181 he is named Uthman bin Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Suraqa, as we quoted from him at 126, but it appears that the repetition of "Abdullah" a second time in his lineage is an error made by a copyist or printer.Uthman was the son of a daughter of Umar bin Khattab, and Abdullah bin Umar was the son of his maternal uncle. His mother was Zaynab bint Umar bin Khattab, who was the youngest of Umar's children. Uthman was a trustworthy tabii. When Abu Zura was asked about him, he said, "A trustworthy man of Madinah," as recorded in Jarh wal-Tadil 155/1/3. Nasai and others also affirmed his trustworthiness. This Uthman died in the year 118, at the age of eighty-three.This hadith is not found in any of the Six Books through this particular route, but the two sheikhs and others narrated it, both at length and in abridged form, through other routes from Ibn Umar. For that reason, the author of Majma al-Zawaid did not mention it. See Awn al-Mabud 1:473, and see what follows at 4761, 5185, 5590, and 5634.
