I accompanied Ibn Umar to Medina, and the only hadith I heard him narrate from the Prophet ﷺ was this.He said, "We were with the Prophet ﷺ when he was brought the heart of a palm tree. He said, 'Among trees there is a tree whose likeness is that of the Muslim man.' I wanted to say, 'It is the date palm,' but I looked around and saw that I was the youngest of the group, so I kept silent. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'It is the date palm.'"
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari related it (1:151) from Ibn Madini from Sufyan. He also related it through the route of Abdullah bin Dinar from Ibn Umar (1:133-135, 203). Muslim related it (2:346) from Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba and Ibn Abu Umar from Sufyan, and he also related it before and after this, through routes from Mujahid, and from Abdullah bin Dinar, and from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, with the same meaning.
