Ibn Umar set out intending to perform Umra, but people informed him that there was unrest in Mecca. He said, "I will enter the state of ihram for Umra, and if I am prevented from completing it, I will do as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did."So he entered ihram for Umra. After he had traveled a short distance and reached Bayda, he said, "The path of Umra is no different from the path of Hajj. I make Hajj obligatory upon myself." Then he said, "I call you to witness that I have made Hajj obligatory upon myself, for the path of Hajj is the path of Umra."He arrived in Mecca, circled the Kaaba seven times, and walked between Safa and Marwa seven times. He said, "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do it." Then he came to Qudayd, bought a sacrificial animal, and drove it along with him.
