Its isnad is sahih. It is in the Muwatta 2:69, with this addition at the end, "Shighar is when a man marries off his daughter to another man on condition that the other marries his own daughter to him, with no dowry between them."Suyuti said in his commentary, Shafii said, "I do not know whether this explanation is from the words of the Prophet ﷺ, or Ibn Umar, or Nafi, or Malik." Bayhaqi related this in al-Marifah. Khatib and others said, "It is Malik's own statement, which he joined to the marfu text." This was clarified by Ibn Mahdi, Qanabi, and Muhriz bin Awn in what Ahmad recorded.Ibn Hajar said, "What has been established is that it is from the statement of Nafi, as clarified by Yahya bin Saeed Qattan, from Ubaydullah bin Umar, who said, 'I asked Nafi, what is shighar?' and he then mentioned it."What Ibn Hajar established is the correct view, because hadith 4692 will come with Yahya's narration from Ubaydullah showing that it was he himself who asked Nafi.The hadith was narrated by the group, as noted in al-Muntaqa 3500, which states, however, that Tirmidhi did not mention the explanation of shighar, while Abu Dawud attributed it to the words of Nafi.
