Masira bin Mabad reported,

Yazid bin Abu Kabsha led us in Asr prayer, and afterward he turned to us and said, "I once prayed with Marwan bin Hakam, and he performed two prostrations just like these two." Then he turned to us and informed us that Marwan had prayed with Uthman .Uthman said, "A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'Messenger of Allah, I prayed, but I do not know whether I prayed an even number of units or an odd one.'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Take care that Satan does not toy with you in your prayer. Whoever among you prays and does not know whether he prayed an even or an odd number, let him perform two prostrations, for they complete his prayer.'"

حدثنا يحيى بن معين وزياد بن أيوب قالا حدثنا سوار أبو عمارة الرملي عن مسيرة بن معبد قال صلى بنا يزيد بن أبي كبشة العصر فانصرف إلينا بعد صلاته فقال إني صليت مع مروان بن الحكم فسجد مثل هاتين السجدتين ثم انصرف إلينا فأعلمنا أنه صلى مع عثمان رضي الله عنه وحدث عن النبي ﷺ فذكر مثله نحوه
