The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever drags his garment out of arrogance, Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection."Nafi said, I was informed that Umm Salama asked, "What about us women?"He replied, "Let it hang down a hand's span."She said, "Then our feet will be exposed."He said, "A forearm's length, and no more than that."
حدثنا إسماعيل أخبرنا أيوب عن نافع
قال رسول الله ﷺ إن الذي يجر ثوبه من الخيلاء لا ينظر الله إليه يوم القيامة قال نافع فأنبئت أن أم سلمة قالت فكيف بنا قال شبرا قالت إذن تبدو أقدامنا قال ذراعا لا تزدن عليه
Its isnad is sahih, regarding the portion of Ibn Umar's hadith that goes back to the Prophet. The group of major hadith compilers narrated it, as noted in Muntaqa 744.Nafi's narration from Umm Salama contains an unnamed transmitter, since he says "I was informed," but this unnamed person has been identified. Nasai narrated it (2:299-300) through the route of Ayub bin Musa from Nafi, from Safiya, from Umm Salama, and he also narrated it through the route of Ubaydullah from Nafi, from Sulayman bin Yasar, from Umm Salama. Likewise, Abu Dawud narrated it (4:111) through the route of Abu Bakr bin Nafi from his father, from Safiya, from Umm Salama, and through the route of Ubaydullah from Nafi, from Sulayman bin Yasar, from Umm Salama. These are sahih, connected isnads.Ayub bin Musa bin Amr bin Saeed bin Aas, his reliability was already established at 465. He is different from Ayub bin Abu Tamima, who appears in Ahmad's isnad here.Safiya is the daughter of Abu Ubayd al-Thaqafiyya, the wife of Abdullah bin Umar. She is a trustworthy Tabiiyya, and some have even counted her among the Companions. See 2958.
