The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade qaza, which is to shave part of a boy's hair and leave the rest.
حدثنا عثمان بن عثمان يعني الغطفاني أخبرنا عمر بن نافع عن أبيه
نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن القزع والقزع أن يحلق الصبي فيترك بعض شعره
Its isnad is sahih. Uthman bin Uthman Ghatafani is trustworthy. Ahmad said, "He is a righteous man, better than the trustworthy narrators," and Ibn Main confirmed his trustworthiness, while Bukhari said, "His hadith is confused." I say, Ahmad was more familiar with his teachers and more thorough in scrutinizing them and their hadiths.Umar bin Nafi is the freedman of Ibn Umar and the son of his freedman, and he is trustworthy. Ahmad said, "He is among the most trustworthy of Nafi's sons." Ibn Uyayna said, "Ziyad bin Saad said to me, when we came to Umar, 'This is the most retentive of Nafi's sons,' and his hadith from Nafi is sahih."This hadith was narrated by Muslim, 2:165, from Muhammad bin Muthanna, from Uthman Ghatafani, with this same isnad, and he narrated it through other chains, all of them from Nafi, from Ibn Umar. The explanation of qaza is from Nafi's own words, as indicated by Muslim's narrations, though there is a single narration in his collection suggesting it comes from the words of Ubaydullah bin Umar, since he narrated it from Umar bin Nafi. The explanation of qaza will come later at 4973, 5175, and 5356.
