We set out in the morning with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ toward Arafat. Some of us were calling out the takbir, while others were reciting the talbiyah.
حدثنا هشيم أنبأنا يحيى بن سعيد عن عبد الله بن أبي سلمة
غدونا مع رسول الله ﷺ إلى عرفات منا المكبر ومنا الملبي
Its chain is sahih. Abdullah bin Abu Salama is Majishun. The apparent chain shows continuity, because Abdullah bin Abu Salama heard from Ibn Umar and narrated from him extensively. But this very hadith was narrated by Muslim (1:363) from Ahmad bin Hanbal and Muhammad bin Muthanna, both from Abdullah bin Numayr, and he narrated it from Saeed bin Yahya bin Saeed Umawi, from his father, both of them, meaning Ibn Numayr and Yahya bin Saeed Umawi, from Yahya bin Saeed Ansari, from Abdullah bin Abu Salama, from Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar, from his father.Likewise Abu Dawud narrated it (2:99-100) from Ahmad bin Hanbal, from Abdullah bin Numayr, from Yahya bin Saeed, from Abdullah bin Abu Salama, from Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar, from his father. Likewise Muslim narrated it through the route of Umar bin Husayn, from Abdullah bin Abu Salama, from Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar, from his father. Likewise it will appear later at 4733, narrated by Ahmad from Ibn Numayr, matching the narration of Muslim and Abu Dawud. So all of them added Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar to the chain. Either its omission in this chain was an oversight of the copyists, or Hushaym, Ahmad's teacher, when he narrated it from Yahya bin Saeed, heard it from him with a gap in the chain, leaving out Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar, or perhaps it was he who left out that link. In any case, the hadith is sahih.Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Umar was a trustworthy successor. He was the executor of his father Abdullah bin Umar's will and was his eldest son. He was deemed trustworthy by Waki, Abu Zura, Ibn Saad, and others.
