Ibn Umar passed by Abu Hurairah while he was narrating from the Prophet ﷺ that he said, "Whoever follows a funeral procession and prays over it receives one qirat of reward, and if he witnesses the burial as well, he receives two qirats. A single qirat is greater than Mount Uhud."Ibn Umar said to him, "Abu Hurairah, be careful what you narrate from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."So Abu Hurairah got up and went with him to Ayesha and said to her, "Mother of the Believers, I implore you by Allah, did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever follows a funeral procession and prays over it receives one qirat, and if he witnesses the burial as well, he receives two qirats'?"She replied, "By Allah, yes."Abu Hurairah then said, "Nothing kept me away from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, not the planting of date palms nor trading in the markets. I was only seeking from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a word he might teach me or a meal he might feed me."Ibn Umar said to him, "Abu Hurairah, you were indeed the most devoted of us in keeping company with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the most knowledgeable of us regarding his hadith."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Yaala bin Ata Amiri Taifi, his reliability was already established at 754, and Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 4/2/415. Walid bin Abdul-Rahman Jurashi Himsi was a reliable Follower, deemed reliable by Ibn Main, Abu Hatim, and others, and Abu Zura Dimashqi said, an early figure of good hadith, and Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 4/2/147-148. Jurashi is with a damma on the jim and a fatha on the ra, a relation to Bani Jarash, a clan of Himyar. It occurs in both original manuscripts here as Qurashi, which is an error, see al-Tahdhib and al-Taqrib, and see al-Ansab on folio 127 and al-Lubab 1:221.The hadith was narrated by the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) and others from Abu Hurairah. See al-Muntaqa 1832, 1833 and al-Targhib wal-Tarhib 4:171-172. Muslim narrated a similar story between Abu Hurairah and Ibn Umar, from the narration of Amir bin Saad bin Abu Waqqas, 1:259-260.Al-wadi, with a fatha on the waw, a kasra on the dal, and a doubled ya, means young palm shoots, singular wadiyya. Al-safqa is a single instance of clapping the hands together, and what is meant here is the transaction itself, because the two parties to a transaction place one's hand in the other's.Abu Hurairah means that no crop or trade ever kept him from memorizing the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
