I arrived in Medina a year after the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found Abu Bakr addressing the people. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us this time last year." Then tears choked him three times, after which he continued, "People, ask Allah for well-being, for no one has been granted anything better than certainty after well-being, and nothing is worse than doubt after disbelief. Hold fast to truthfulness, for it leads to righteousness, and the two together are in Paradise. Beware of lying, for it leads to wickedness, and the two together are in the Fire."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي حدثنا معاوية يعني ابن صالح عن سليم بن عامر الكلاعي
قدمت المدينة بعد وفاة رسول الله ﷺ بسنة فألفيت أبا بكر يخطب الناس فقال قام فينا رسول الله ﷺ عام الأول فخنقته العبرة ثلاث مرار ثم قال يا أيها الناس سلوا الله المعافاة فإنه لم يؤت أحد مثل يقين بعد معافاة ولا أشد من ريبة بعد كفر وعليكم بالصدق فإنه يهدي إلى البر وهما في الجنة وإياكم والكذب فإنه يهدي إلى الفجور وهما في النار
