Abdullah bin Masud reported,

The Prophet ﷺ came, walking between Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, and there was Ibn Masud praying, reciting Surah Nisa. When he reached the end of the hundredth verse, Ibn Masud began to supplicate while still standing in prayer. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Ask, and you will be given. Ask, and you will be given."Then he said, "Whoever wishes to recite the Quran as fresh as when it was revealed, let him recite it in the manner of Ibn Umm Abd."When morning came, Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه went early to him to give him the good news, and asked him, "What did you ask Allah for last night?"Ibn Masud replied, "I said, 'O Allah, I ask You for faith that never turns back, for bliss that never runs out, and for the companionship of Muhammad in the highest garden of eternity.'"Then Umar رضي الله عنه came, and he was told that Abu Bakr had already gotten there before him.Umar said, "May Allah have mercy on Abu Bakr. I have never raced him to any good thing without his reaching it before me."
