While he was delivering a sermon from his pulpit, he said, "I am about to relate to you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Nothing kept me from telling it to you except my reluctance to share it. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Standing guard for one night in the cause of Allah the Exalted is better than a thousand nights spent in prayer by night and fasting by day.'"
حدثنا روح حدثنا كهمس عن مصعب بن ثابت عن عبد الله بن الزبير قال
وهو يخطب على منبره إني محدثكم حديثا سمعته من رسول الله ﷺ ما كان يمنعني أن أحدثكم إلا الضن عليكم وإني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول حرس ليلة في سبيل الله تعالى أفضل من ألف ليلة يقام ليلها ويصام نهارها
