I saw the Commander of the Believers, Uthman, performing wudu. He poured water over his hands three times, then he cleared his nose three times, rinsed his mouth three times, then washed his face three times. Then he washed his right arm up to the elbow three times, and his left arm in the same way. Then he wiped his head, then washed his right foot three times, and his left foot in the same way.Then he said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform wudu much as I have performed it now, and then he said, 'Whoever performs wudu as I have done, then prays two units of prayer without letting his mind wander during them, his past sins will be forgiven.'"
حدثنا محمد بن بكر أخبرنا ابن جريج حدثني ابن شهاب عن عطاء بن يزيد الجندعي أنه سمع حمران مولى عثمان بن عفان رضي الله عنه قال رأيت أمير المؤمنين عثمان يتوضأ فأهراق على يديه ثلاث مرات ثم استنثر ثلاث مرات ومضمض ثلاثا وذكر الحديث مثل معنى حديث معمر
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Muhammad bin Bakr, Ahmad's teacher, is Muhammad bin Bakr Barsani, with the ba vowelled with damma, the ra with sukoon, followed by a plain sin, and he is trustworthy. In manuscripts Ha and Kaf it reads Muhammad bin Abu Bakr, which is an error that we corrected based on manuscript Ha. We gave preference to this correction because Muhammad bin Abu Bakr Muqaddami was not one of Ahmad's teachers, as we noted at 424, nor did he narrate from Ibn Jurayj, nor does he belong to the generation of Ibn Jurayj's students.Jundai, with the jim vowelled with damma, the nun with sukoon, and the dal with fatha, is Ata bin Yazid Laythi. Jundai is a clan within Layth.This hadith is a repetition of 421, and it is the hadith of Mamar to which he referred back.
