Abdullah bin Utba bin Masud reported,

They came back to Ibn Masud about this matter for a month or thereabouts, and they said, "You must give us a ruling on it."He said, "I rule that she receives a dowry equal to that of women of her standing, neither less nor more, and she has the right of inheritance, and she must observe the waiting period. If this ruling is correct, it is from Allah , and if it is mistaken, it is from me and from Satan, and Allah and His Messenger are free of any error in it."Then a group from Ashja stood up, among them al-Jarrah and Abu Sinan, and they said, "We bear witness that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave the same ruling concerning a woman from among us called Birwa bint Washiq."Ibn Masud rejoiced greatly at this when his ruling matched that of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

حدثنا محمد بن جعفر قال الرجل يتزوج ولا يفرض لها يعني ثم يموت حدثنا سعيد عن قتادة عن خلاس وأبي حسان الأعرج

عن عبد الله بن عتبة بن مسعود أنه قال

اختلفوا إلى ابن مسعود في ذلك شهرا أو قريبا من ذلك فقالوا لا بد من أن تقول فيها قال فإني أقضي لها مثل صدقة امرأة من نسائها لا وكس ولا شطط ولها الميراث وعليها العدة فإن يك صوابا فمن الله عز وجل وإن يكن خطأ فمني ومن الشيطان والله عز وجل ورسوله بريئان فقام رهط من أشجع فيهم الجراح وأبو سنان فقالوا نشهد أن رسول الله ﷺ قضى في امرأة منا يقال لها بروع بنت واشق بمثل الذي قضيت ففرح ابن مسعود بذلك فرحا شديدا حين وافق قوله قضاء رسول الله ﷺ
