Abdullah bin Masud said, "Allah has cursed the women who tattoo and those who have themselves tattooed, those who pluck their facial hair, and those who file their teeth for the sake of beauty."Word of this reached a woman from the tribe of Banu Asad named Umm Yaqub. She came to him and said, "I have read what is between the two covers of the Quran, and I did not find what you said."He replied, "Have you not read, 'Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, abstain from it'? [Hashr 59:7]"She said, "Yes."He said, "Indeed, he has forbidden it."She said, "I think I see some of these things in your own wife."He said, "Go and look."She went, looked, then came back and said, "I saw nothing."Abdullah said, "If she had been like that, we would not have remained together with her."

لعن الله الواشمات والمتوشمات والمتنمصات والمتفلجات للحسن فبلغ ذلك امرأة من بني أسد يقال لها أم يعقوب فأتته فقالت قد قرأت ما بين اللوحين ما وجدت ما قلت قال ما وجدت {وما آتاكم الرسول فخذوه وما نهاكم عنه فانتهوا} فقالت إني لأراه في بعض أهلك قال اذهبي فانظري قال فذهبت فنظرت ثم جاءت فقالت ما رأيت شيئا فقال عبد الله لو كان لها ما جامعناها
