I witnessed Miqdad bin Aswad in a moment that, had I been the one in his place, would have been more beloved to me than anything else. He came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was praying against the polytheists, and said, "We will not say to you what the people of Musa said, 'Go, you and your Lord, and fight. We will remain sitting here' [Maidah 5:24]. Rather, we will fight on your right and on your left, in front of you and behind you."I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ light up, and this delighted him.
حدثنا أبو نعيم حدثنا إسرائيل عن مخارق الأحمسي عن طارق بن شهاب قال سمعت
لقد شهدت من المقداد بن الأسود قال غيره مشهدا لأن أكون أنا صاحبه أحب إلي مما عدل به أتى النبي ﷺ وهو يدعو على المشركين فقال لا نقول لك كما قال قوم موسى {اذهب أنت وربك فقاتلا إنا هاهنا قاعدون} ولكن نقاتل عن يمينك وعن شمالك ومن بين يديك ومن خلفك فرأيت رسول الله ﷺ أشرق وجهه وسره ذاك
