We were sitting at Abdullah's door waiting for him to give us permission to enter. Then Yazid bin Muawiya al-Nakhai came and went in to see him. We said to him, "Inform him of our presence."He went in and informed him, and before long Abdullah came out to us and said, "I am well aware of your presence, but I deliberately leave you waiting for fear of wearying you. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to space out his admonitions over the days, fearing that we might grow weary."
حدثنا أبو معاوية وابن نمير قالا حدثنا الأعمش
كنا جلوسا عند باب عبد الله ننتظره يأذن لنا قال فجاء يزيد بن معاوية النخعي فدخل عليه فقلنا له أعلمه بمكاننا فدخل فأعلمه فلم يلبث أن خرج إلينا فقال إني لأعلم مكانكم فأدعكم على عمد مخافة أن أملكم إن رسول الله ﷺ كان يتخولنا بالموعظة في الأيام مخافة السآمة علينا
