The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me Surah al-Ahqaf, and he taught it to another man as well. The other man and I differed over one verse, so I asked him, "Who taught you this?"He replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ."I went to the Prophet ﷺ, who was sitting with a group of people, and said, "Messenger of Allah, did you not teach me such-and-such a verse?"He answered, "Yes."I said, "But this man claims that you taught it to him in this other way."The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed, then a man sitting beside him said, "Let each of you recite as he heard it. Those before you were destroyed only because of disputes."The narrator said, By Allah, I do not know whether the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded him to say that or whether he said it of his own accord.
حدثنا عبد الصمد وعفان المعنى قالا حدثنا حماد قال عفان أخبرنا عاصم عن زر
أقرأني رسول الله ﷺ سورة الأحقاف وأقرأها رجلا آخر فخالفني في آية فقلت له من أقرأكها فقال رسول الله ﷺ فأتيته وهو في نفر فقلت يا رسول الله ألم تقرئني آية كذا وكذا فقال بلى قال قلت فإن هذا يزعم أنك أقرأتها إياه كذا وكذا فتغير وجه رسول الله ﷺ فقال الرجل الذي عنده ليقرأ كل رجل منكم كما سمع فإنما هلك من كان قبلكم بالاختلاف قال فوالله ما أدري أرسول الله ﷺ أمره بذلك أم هو قاله
