The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever kills a snake earns seven good deeds, whoever kills a gecko earns one good deed, and whoever leaves a snake alive out of fear of its consequences is not one of us."

Its chain is daif because of a break in it. Musayab bin Rafi did not meet Ibn Masud, as we explained at 3676. Subayi is Abu Ishaq Sulayman bin Abu Sulayman.The hadith is in Majma al-Zawaid 4:5, where it says, Ahmad and Tabarani in al-Kabir narrated it, and the men of Ahmad's narration are the men of the sahih, except that Musayab bin Rafi did not hear from Ibn Masud. Suyuti mentioned it in Jami Saghir 8909 and also attributed it to Ibn Hibban, marking it with the symbol of soundness, but we have now identified its defect. See also 1523, 2037, 3254, and 3746.
