Abdullah bin Masud reported,
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I disassociate myself from the close friendship of every intimate friend, and were I to take a close friend, I would have taken Ibn Abu Quhafa as my close friend. But your companion is the close friend of Allah 
."

قال رسول الله ﷺ إني أبرأ إلى كل خليل من خلته ولو كنت متخذا خليلا لاتخذت ابن أبي قحافة خليلا وإن صاحبكم خليل الله عز وجل

Its isnad is sahih. It is a repetition of 3580 and 3679. Sufyan in the first instance is Ibn Uyayna, but here he is Thawri. It has also passed in abbreviated form at 3878. "From his intimate friend" appears as "from his creation" in [manuscript] H, and the correction is from [manuscript] K.
