When the Prophet ﷺ passed away, the Ansar said, "Let there be a leader from us and a leader from you."Umar came to them and said, "People of the Ansar, do you not know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer?"They replied, "Yes."Umar said, "Then which of you would willingly place himself ahead of Abu Bakr?"The Ansar said, "We seek refuge in Allah from placing ourselves ahead of Abu Bakr."
حدثنا معاوية بن عمرو حدثنا زائدة حدثنا عاصم عن زر
لما قبض النبي ﷺ قالت الأنصار منا أمير ومنكم أمير فأتاهم عمر فقال يا معشر الأنصار ألستم تعلمون أن رسول الله ﷺ أمر أبا بكر أن يؤم الناس قالوا بلى قال فأيكم تطيب نفسه أن يتقدم أبا بكر قالت الأنصار نعوذ بالله أن نتقدم أبا بكر
