We asked our Prophet ﷺ about the pace at which a funeral procession should move. He said, "The pace is anything short of a brisk trot. If the deceased was righteous, then he is being hastened to good," or he said, "let him be hastened to it, and if he was otherwise, then away with the people of the Fire. The funeral bier is to be followed, not led. Whoever walks ahead of it is not one of us."
Its isnad is daif due to the weakness of Abu Majid Hanafi. The hadith is given at length at 3585, where we have explained its defect in detail.Al-khabab: a type of quickened pace in walking. In kh: "or he said, he hastened to it," omitting the lam, and we have corrected it from k.In h: "the same as that" instead of "the same," and we have adopted what is in k.
