I heard a man reciting a verse, but I had heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reciting it differently. So I brought him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed, or I noticed displeasure on the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Both of you are reciting well. Those before you differed over this and were destroyed because of it."Shuba said, Masaar also narrated it to me from him, tracing it back to Abdullah from the Prophet ﷺ, "So do not differ."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن عبد الملك بن ميسرة عن النزال بن سبرة
سمعت رجلا يقرأ آية وسمعت من رسول الله ﷺ غيرها فأتيت به رسول الله ﷺ فتغير وجه رسول الله ﷺ أو عرفت في وجه رسول الله ﷺ الكراهية فقال رسول الله ﷺ كلاكما محسن إن من قبلكم اختلفوا فيه فأهلكهم قال شعبة وحدثني مسعر عنه ورفعه إلى عبد الله عن النبي ﷺ فلا تختلفوا
