The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When the Children of Israil fell into sins, their scholars forbade them, but they did not stop. So the scholars sat with them in their gatherings,"—Yazid said, I think he said, "and their markets,"—"and ate and drank with them. So Allah struck the hearts of some of them against others and cursed them through the tongue of Dawud and Isa, son of Maryam. 'That was because they disobeyed and used to transgress' [Maidah 5:78]."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had been reclining, then he sat up and said, "No, by the One in whose hand is my soul, not until you compel them firmly to the truth."
حدثنا يزيد أنبأنا شريك بن عبد الله عن علي بن بذيمة عن أبي عبيدة
قال رسول الله ﷺ لما وقعت بنو إسرائيل في المعاصي نهتهم علماؤهم فلم ينتهوا فجالسوهم في مجالسهم قال يزيد أحسبه قال وأسواقهم وواكلوهم وشاربوهم فضرب الله قلوب بعضهم ببعض ولعنهم على لسان داود وعيسى ابن مريم {ذلك بما عصوا وكانوا يعتدون} وكان رسول الله ﷺ متكئا فجلس فقال لا والذي نفسي بيده حتى تأطروهم على الحق أطرا
Its chain of transmission is daif because of a break in it. Ibn Kathir quoted it in his tafsir 3:205 from this passage, then quoted it from Sunan Abu Dawud through the route of Ali bin Budhayma, then said, Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah likewise narrated it through the route of Ali bin Budhayma, with the same wording. Tirmidhi said, hasan gharib. Then he and Ibn Majah also narrated it from Bundar, from Ibn Mahdi, from Sufyan, from Ali bin Budhayma, from Abu Ubayda, as a mursal narration.
