I witnessed an act from Miqdad, Abu Naeem said, "the son of Aswad," that I would rather have been the one to do it than anything that could be compared to it.He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was supplicating against the polytheists and said, "By Allah, Messenger of Allah, we will not say to you as the Children of Israil said to Musa, 'Go, you and your Lord, and fight. We will sit right here' [Maidah 5:24]. Rather, we will fight on your right, on your left, in front of you, and behind you."I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ light up, and this delighted him.Aswad said, "I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ light up at that, and it delighted him."Abu Naeem said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, his face lit up, and that delighted him."
Its chains of transmission are sahih. Muharib is al-Ahmasi, and there is disagreement over his father's name. Some said Abdullah, and this is the more likely view, as mentioned earlier at 519, and it is what Bukhari mentioned in al-Kabir 4/2/431, after which he noted the disagreement over it. The hadith was narrated by Bukhari in the Sahih 7:223-224."Adl bihi" (equivalent to it), Hafiz said, with a damma on the ayn and a kasra on the dal, meaning weight, that is, an equivalent from among worldly things corresponding to that.
