The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever swears an oath falsely in order to seize the property of a Muslim by it will meet Allah while He is angry with him."Ashath said, "By Allah, this was about me. There was a piece of land between me and a Jewish man, and he denied my right to it, so I brought him before the Prophet ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked me, 'Do you have proof?'I replied, 'No.'He then said to the Jew, 'Swear an oath.'I said, 'Messenger of Allah, then he will swear and take my property.'So Allah
revealed, "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price..." [Al Imran 3:77] to the end of the verse."
Its isnad is sahih, and it is a longer version of 3576. Ibn Kathir quoted it in the Tafsir 2:172-173 from this passage, and said, "Both of them [meaning the two Shaykhs] narrated it from the hadith of Amash." It was also attributed in Dhakhair 4874 to Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, and Ibn Majah. Ashath is Ibn Qays al-Kindi, the companion, and the section containing the occasion of revelation is from his musnad, and it will come in his musnad [5:211-212] with this isnad and with other isnads.
