But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque mounted on his camel with Usama bin Zayd behind him. He asked for something to drink, so we gave him nabidh, which he drank, then handed the rest to Usama bin Zayd. He said, "You have done well and acted nobly. Continue doing so, for we do not wish to change this."
حدثنا ابن أبي عدي عن حميد عن بكر
ولكن رسول الله ﷺ دخل المسجد وهو على بعيره وخلفه أسامة بن زيد فاستسقى فسقيناه نبيذا فشرب ثم ناول فضله أسامة بن زيد فقال قد أحسنتم وأجملتم فكذلك فافعلوا فنحن لا نريد أن نغير ذلك
Its isnad is sahih. Humayd is Ibn Abu Humayd al-Tawil. Bakr is Ibn Abdullah al-Muzani, a trustworthy and reliable successor, whose biography Bukhari recorded in al-Kabir 1/2/90. Abu Dawud narrated the hadith in 2:162 through Humayd, and in his version it begins, A man said to Ibn Abbas, "What is the matter with the people of this house, that they serve nabidh, while their cousins serve milk, honey, and sawiq? Is that out of stinginess toward them, or out of need?" Ibn Abbas said, "There is neither stinginess nor need on our part, but the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) entered..." and so on.Munziri said, Muslim also narrated it. Al-Muhib al-Tabari attributed it, in Kitab Qira, to the two Shaykhs, but I did not find it in Bukhari. Its meaning has already appeared with a daif isnad at 2946 and 3114.
