He heard Ibn Abbas, who saw Abu Hurayrah performing ablution, say to him, "Do you know why I am performing ablution?"Abu Hurayrah replied, "No."He said, "I am performing ablution because of pieces of dried curd that I ate."Ibn Abbas said, "I do not care what you have performed ablution from. I bear witness that I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ eat a shoulder of meat, then stand up to pray without performing ablution."The narrator said, Sulayman was present and heard this from both of them.
حدثنا عبد الرزاق وابن بكر قالا أخبرنا ابن جريج قال أخبرني محمد بن يوسف أن
أنه سمع ابن عباس ورأى أبا هريرة يتوضأ فقال أتدري مما أتوضأ قال لا قال أتوضأ من أثوار أقط أكلتها قال ابن عباس ما أبالي مما توضأت أشهد لرأيت رسول الله ﷺ أكل كتف لحم ثم قام إلى الصلاة وما توضأ قال وسليمان حاضر ذلك منهما جميعا
Its isnad is sahih. Muhammad bin Yusuf bin Abdullah bin Yazid Kindi Aaraj is trustworthy, and he was deemed trustworthy by Ahmad, Ibn Main, Ibn Madini, and others, and he was one of the teachers of Malik. Bayhaqi related the hadith 1:157-158 with similar wording through the route of Ibn Jurayj. See also the previous hadith and 2277.The athwar are aqit. Ibn Athir said, "The athwar are the plural of thawr, and it is a piece of aqit, which is solidified, hardened milk."
