Do not exceed the bounds in the dowries of women, for if it were a mark of honor in this world or piety in the hereafter, the Prophet ﷺ would have been the most deserving of you in this regard. Yet he never gave more than twelve ounces in marriage to any of his daughters or wives.And there is another thing you say on your military campaigns. You say, "So-and-so was killed as a martyr," or "So-and-so died as a martyr," when perhaps he had loaded the back of his beast or the saddle of his mount with gold and silver, seeking trade. So do not say that. Rather, say as Muhammad ﷺ said, "Whoever is killed in the path of Allah is in Paradise."
حدثنا سفيان عن أيوب عن ابن سيرين سمعه من أبي العجفاء سمعت
لا تغلوا صدق النساء فإنها لو كانت مكرمة في الدنيا أو تقوى في الآخرة لكان أولاكم بها النبي ﷺ ما أنكح شيئا من بناته ولا نسائه فوق اثنتي عشرة وقية وأخرى تقولونها في مغازيكم قتل فلان شهيدا مات فلان شهيدا ولعله أن يكون قد أوقر عجز دابته أو دف راحلته ذهبا وفضة يبتغي التجارة فلا تقولوا ذاكم ولكن قولوا كما قال محمد ﷺ من قتل في سبيل الله فهو في الجنة
