I was riding behind the Prophet ﷺ when a man came and said, "My father," or "my mother." Yahya said, "I am most certain he said: my father is elderly and has not performed the pilgrimage. If I mount him on a camel he cannot stay upright on it, and if I tie him to it I do not feel safe for him. Shall I perform the pilgrimage on his behalf?"The Prophet asked, "Would you pay off a debt for him if he had one?"He replied, "Yes."The Prophet said, "Then perform the pilgrimage on his behalf."

Its isnad is sahih, though there is an error in it from Yahya bin Abu Ishaq. We have discussed this in detail at 1812 and 1813, in the Musnad of Fadl, see also 3375. In the two original manuscripts it reads Yahya bin Ishaq, which is an error, as we explained there.
