Yazid bin Asam reported,

I heard him say that the dabb lizard was mentioned in the presence of Ibn Abbas. A man sitting with him said, "It was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he neither declared it lawful nor unlawful."Ibn Abbas replied, "What an evil thing you are saying. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sent to declare what is lawful and what is unlawful. Umm Hufayd bint Harith came to visit her sister Maymuna bint Harith, bringing food that contained the meat of a dabb lizard. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived after having his evening drink, and the food was placed before him. He was told that it contained dabb meat, so he withheld his hand. The others present ate from it. Had it been forbidden, he would have prohibited them from eating it. He said, 'It is not found in our land, and we find it distasteful.'"
