I came to Ibn Abbas while he was reclining on his cloak near Zamzam. I said, "Tell me about Ashura. Which day should I fast?"He replied, "When you see the crescent of Muharram, count the days, then begin your fast on the morning of the ninth."I asked, "Is this how Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, used to fast it?"He said, "Yes."

انتهيت إلى ابن عباس وهو متوسد رداءه في زمزم فقلت أخبرني عن عاشوراء أي يوم أصومه فقال إذا رأيت هلال المحرم فاعدد فأصبح من التاسعة صائما قال قلت أكذاك كان يصومه محمد عليه الصلاة والسلام قال نعم
