Najdah bin Amir wrote to Ibn Abbas asking him about several matters. I was present with Ibn Abbas when he read the letter and when he wrote his reply. He wrote back to him, "You asked me," and he mentioned the rest of the message.He said, "You asked whether the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to kill any of the children of the polytheists. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not kill any of them, so you too must not kill any of them, unless you know about them what Khidr knew about the boy when he killed him."

كتب نجدة بن عامر إلى ابن عباس يسأله عن أشياء فشهدت ابن عباس حين قرأ كتابه وحين كتب جوابه فكتب إليه إنك سألتني وذكر الحديث قال وسألت هل كان رسول الله ﷺ يقتل من صبيان المشركين أحدا وإن رسول الله ﷺ لم يكن يقتل منهم أحدا وأنت فلا تقتل منهم أحدا إلا أن تكون تعلم منهم ما علم الخضر من الغلام حين قتله
