The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by us on the night of sacrifice while a portion of the night still remained. He began tapping our thighs, saying, "My sons, set out, but do not throw the pebbles at the Jamrah until the sun has risen."

Its isnad is sahih. Abu Ahwas is Salam bin Salim. The hadith is an abridgment of 2507, and see also 2082, 2089, and 2842. In H, it reads, "Abu Ahwas and Amash narrated to us," which is an error, for Yahya bin Adam never met Amash, but rather narrates from him through intermediaries, among them Abu Ahwas. And in K, it reads, "Abu Ahwas, from Hakam bin Utayba," which is also an error, for Abu Ahwas never met Hakam. What is correct is what we have established.
