Ali came out from the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during his final illness, and the people asked, "How has the Messenger of Allah ﷺ become this morning, Abu Hasan?"He replied, "He has become, praise be to Allah, recovering."Abbas then said, "Do you not see? By Allah, I can see that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ will pass away from this illness of his. I recognize the look of death on the faces of the sons of Abdul-Muttalib. So let us go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and speak to him. If this matter of leadership is to remain among us, let him make that clear, and if it is to go to others, let us speak to him so he may give them his counsel concerning us."Ali replied, "By Allah, if he says the matter is to go to others, the people will never grant it to us. By Allah, I will never speak to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this."
حدثنا يحيى بن آدم عن ابن المبارك عن يونس عن الزهري عن عبد الله بن كعب
خرج علي من عند رسول الله ﷺ في مرضه فقالوا كيف أصبح رسول الله ﷺ يا أبا حسن فقال أصبح بحمد الله بارئا فقال العباس ألا ترى إني لأرى رسول الله ﷺ سيتوفى من وجعه وإني لأعرف في وجوه بني عبد المطلب الموت فانطلق بنا إلى رسول الله ﷺ فلنكلمه فإن كان الأمر فينا بينه وإن كان في غيرنا كلمناه وأوصى بنا فقال علي إن قال الأمر في غيرنا فلم يعطناه الناس أبدا وإني والله لا أكلم رسول الله ﷺ في هذا أبدا
