Yaqub reported,

Umm Ala reported that she pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Uthman bin Mazun was assigned to lodge with them.Yaqub said, "He fell to their lot for lodging when the Ansar drew lots over housing the Muhajirun."Umm Ala said, "Uthman bin Mazun fell ill while staying with us, so we nursed him until he passed away. We then wrapped him in his garments. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to us, and I said, 'May Allah's mercy be upon you, Abu Saaib. My testimony concerning you is that Allah has honored you.'"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "How do you know that Allah has honored him?"She said, "I replied, 'I do not know, may my father and mother be your ransom.'"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "As for him, certainty has come to him from his Lord, and I do hope good for him. By Allah, even though I am the Messenger of Allah, I do not know what will be done with me."Yaqub said the wording was "what will be done with him."She said, "By Allah, I will never declare anyone pure after this. This grieved me, so I slept, and I was shown in a dream a flowing spring for Uthman. I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him about it."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "That is his deeds."

حدثنا أبو كامل حدثنا إبراهيم بن سعد حدثنا ابن شهاب ويعقوب حدثنا أبي عن ابن شهاب عن خارجة بن زيد بن ثابت عن أم العلاء الأنصارية وهي امرأة من نسائهم قال

يعقوب أخبرته

أنها بايعت رسول الله ﷺ قال عثمان بن مظعون في السكنى قال يعقوب طار لهم في السكنى حين اقترعت الأنصار على سكنى المهاجرين قالت أم العلاء فاشتكى عثمان بن مظعون عندنا فمرضناه حتى إذا توفي أدرجناه في أثوابه فدخل علينا رسول الله ﷺ فقلت رحمة الله عليك يا أبا السائب شهادتي عليك لقد أكرمك الله فقال رسول الله ﷺ وما يدريك أن الله أكرمه قالت فقلت لا أدري بأبي أنت وأمي فقال رسول الله ﷺ أما هو فقد جاءه اليقين من ربه وإني لأرجو الخير له والله ما أدري وأنا رسول الله ما يفعل بي قال يعقوب به قالت والله لا أزكي أحدا بعده أبدا فأحزنني ذلك فنمت فأريت لعثمان عينا تجري فجئت رسول الله ﷺ فأخبرته ذلك فقال رسول الله ﷺ ذاك عمله
