There was a disagreement between Ibn Abbas and Zayd bin Thabit concerning a woman who begins menstruating after performing the circumambulation of the House on the Day of Sacrifice.Zayd said, "She must not depart until her final act is the circumambulation of the House."Ibn Abbas said, "Once she has performed the circumambulation on the Day of Sacrifice and become lawful for her husband, she may depart if she wishes and need not wait."The Ansar said, "Ibn Abbas, when you differ from Zayd, we will not follow you."Ibn Abbas replied, "Ask Umm Sulaym."So they asked her about it, and she told them that this had happened to Safiya bint Huyayy bin Akhtab, and Ayesha had said to her, "May you be disappointed, you have detained us!" This was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he instructed her to depart. Umm Sulaym also reported that she herself had experienced the same, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed her to depart.
