The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not boast about your forefathers who died in the days of ignorance. By the One in whose hand my soul rests, what the dung beetle rolls with its nose is better than your forefathers who died in the days of ignorance."
Its isnad is sahih. Sulayman bin Dawud is Tayalisi. The hadith appears in his Musnad, 2682, and in Majma al-Zawaid, 8:85, where it is also attributed to Tabarani in Al-Awsat and Al-Kabir, with the comment, "The men of Ahmad are the men of the Sahih."Al-jual, with the jim vowelled with damma and the ayn with fatha, is a small filthy creature like a beetle. In Lisan, it is said to be Abu Jaran, with the jim vowelled with fatha. Yudahdihu means "it rolls," referring to it rolling dung and filth.
