She asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the aqiqah, and he said, "For a boy, two equivalent sheep, and for a girl, one sheep."I asked Ata, "What does 'equivalent' mean?"He replied, "Two that are alike."Hajjaj said in his version, "Sheep are more preferable to me than goats." He also mentioned that males are more preferable to him than females, and he said, "We prefer that the dark portions be taken from it."
حدثنا حجاج عن ابن جريج وعبد الرزاق قال أخبرنا ابن جريج قال أخبرني عطاء عن حبيبة بنت ميسرة بن أبي خثيم
أنها سألت رسول الله ﷺ عن العقيقة فقال عن الغلام شاتان مكافأتان وعن الجارية شاة قلت لعطاء ما المكافأتان قال المثلان قال حجاج في حديثه والضأن أحب إلي من المعز وذكر أنها أحب إلي من إناثها قال ونحب أن يجعله سوادها منه
