Faria bint Malik bin Sinan, the sister of Abu Saeed Khudri, narrated that her husband had gone out in pursuit of some runaway slaves of theirs and caught up with them at the edge of Qadum, where they killed him. The news of his death reached her while she was in one of the houses of the Ansar, far away from her family's home. She disliked spending her waiting period there, so she came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, the news of my husband's death has come to me while I am in one of the houses of the Ansar, far away from my family's home. He left me in a dwelling that he did not own, did not leave me any maintenance to support me, and I have not inherited any wealth from him. If you would permit me to join my brothers and family so that we may all be together, that would be more beloved to me. So allow me to join my family."I went out delighted at this, but when I was in the chamber, or the mosque, he called me, or ordered that I be called, and I was summoned. He said to me, "What did you claim?"I repeated my account to him.He said, "Stay in the home of your husband where the news of his death reached you, until the prescribed term is fulfilled."She said, "So I observed my waiting period there for four months and ten days."
حدثنا بشر بن المفضل قال حدثنا سعد بن إسحاق بن كعب بن عجرة الأنصاري
أن فريعة بنت مالك بن سنان أخت أبي سعيد الخدري حدثتها أن زوجها خرج في طلب أعلاج لهم فأدركهم بطرف القدوم فقتلوه فأتاها نعيه وهي في دار من دور الأنصار شاسعة عن دار أهلها فكرهت العدة فيها فأتت النبي ﷺ فقالت يا رسول الله أتاني نعي زوجي وأنا في دار من دور الأنصار شاسعة عن دور أهلي إنما تركني في مسكن لا يملكه ولم يتركني في نفقة ينفق علي ولم أرث منه مالا فإن رأيت أن ألحق بإخوتي وأهلي فيكون أمرنا جميعا فإنه أحب إلي فأذن لي أن ألحق بأهلي فخرجت مسرورة بذلك حتى إذا كنت في الحجرة أو المسجد دعاني أو أمر بي فدعيت فقال لي كيف زعمت فأعدت عليه فقال امكثي في مسكن زوجك الذي جاءك فيه نعيه حتى يبلغ الكتاب أجله قالت فاعتددت فيه أربعة أشهر وعشرا
