A woman went out to perform the prayer when a man met her, wrapped her in his garments, satisfied his desire with her, and left. Then another man came upon her, and she told him, "A man did such and such to me." So that man set off in pursuit of the attacker. Then a group from the Ansar came upon her and she repeated to them, "A man did such and such to me." They too set off in search of him, and they returned with the man who had gone looking for the attacker. They brought him to the Prophet ﷺ, and she said, "This is the one."When the Prophet ﷺ ordered that he be stoned, the man who had actually assaulted her spoke up and said, "Messenger of Allah, I am the one."The Prophet ﷺ said to the woman, "Go, for Allah has forgiven you," and he spoke kindly to the man who had been wrongly accused.Someone asked, "Prophet of Allah, will you not stone him?"He replied, "He has repented with such a repentance that, were the people of Madinah to repent like it, it would be accepted from them."
