The Prophet ﷺ sent a man from the tribe of Banu Makhzum to collect zakat. He said to me, "Why don't you come along with me? You'll get a share."I said, "Let me first mention this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."So I mentioned it to him, and he said, "We, the family of Muhammad, are not permitted to receive zakat, and the freed slave of a people is considered one of them."
حدثنا يحيى عن شعبة حدثني الحكم
أن النبي ﷺ بعث رجلا من بني مخزوم على الصدقة فقال ألا تصحبني تصيب قال قلت حتى أذكر ذلك لرسول الله ﷺ فذكرت ذلك فقال إنا آل محمد لا تحل لنا الصدقة وإن مولى القوم من أنفسهم
