Amir reported,

I came to Madinah and went to Fatimah bint Qays, who told me that her husband had divorced her during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had sent him out on a military expedition.She said, "His brother said to me, 'Leave the house.'"I replied, "I am entitled to maintenance and lodging until the waiting period ends."He said, "No."She continued, "So I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, 'So-and-so has divorced me, and his brother has expelled me and refused me lodging and maintenance.'"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for him and asked, "What is the matter between you and the daughter of the family of Qays?"He replied, "Messenger of Allah, my brother divorced her with three pronouncements all at once."She said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, 'Look here, daughter of the family of Qays. Maintenance and lodging are due to a woman from her husband only as long as he has the right to take her back. When he no longer has that right, there is no maintenance and no lodging. Leave and stay with so-and-so.'"Then he said, "He has visitors who talk with her. Stay instead with Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is blind and will not see you. And do not marry until I am the one who arranges your marriage."She said, "A man from Quraysh proposed to me, and I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to seek his counsel."He said, "Will you not marry someone dearer to me than him?"I said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah. Marry me to whomever you wish."She said, "So he married me to Usama bin Zayd."

عامر قال

قدمت المدينة فأتيت فاطمة بنت قيس فحدثتني أن زوجها طلقها على عهد رسول الله ﷺ فبعثه رسول الله ﷺ في سرية قالت فقال لي أخوه اخرجي من الدار فقلت إن لي نفقة وسكنى حتى يحل الأجل قال لا قالت فأتيت رسول الله ﷺ فقلت إن فلانا طلقني وإن أخاه أخرجني ومنعني السكنى والنفقة فأرسل إليه فقال ما لك ولابنة آل قيس قال يا رسول الله إن أخي طلقها ثلاثا جميعا قالت فقال رسول الله ﷺ انظري يا ابنة آل قيس إنما النفقة والسكنى للمرأة على زوجها ما كانت له عليها رجعة فإذا لم يكن له عليها رجعة فلا نفقة ولا سكنى اخرجي فانزلي على فلانة ثم قال إنه يتحدث إليها انزلي على ابن أم مكتوم فإنه أعمى لا يراك ثم لا تنكحي حتى أكون أنكحك قالت فخطبني رجل من قريش فأتيت رسول الله ﷺ أستأمره فقال ألا تنكحين من هو أحب إلي منه فقلت بلى يا رسول الله فأنكحني من أحببت قالت فأنكحني أسامة بن زيد
