Salaama bint Maqil reported,

I belonged to Hubab bin Amr, and I had a son by him. His wife said to me, "Now you will be sold to settle his debt." So I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned that to him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Who is in charge of Hubab bin Amr's estate?"They said, "His brother, Abu Yasar Kaab bin Amr."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ summoned him and said, "Do not sell her. Set her free, and when you hear of any slaves coming to me, come to me and I will compensate you." They did so.After the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they disagreed among themselves. Some said, "An umm walad is still owned as a slave. Were that not so, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would not have compensated them for her." Others said, "She is free. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had already set her free." That was the point of their disagreement.
