The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us and said, "Women, is there not enough in silver for you to adorn yourselves with? Indeed, there is not a woman among you who adorns herself with gold and displays it except that she will be punished with it."
Its chain of transmission is daif, due to the unknown status of the wife of Rabi bin Harash. The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud 4/93 no. 4237 in the chapter on rings, Nasai 8/156 no. 5137 in the chapter on adornment, Darimi 2/362 no. 3646 in the chapter on seeking permission, and Bayhaqi in the chapter on zakat 4/141, and they said that the hadith is abrogated by the hadith permitting silk and gold for women and prohibiting them for men. Nawawi, in his commentary on Muslim, reported the scholarly consensus on this point.
