The Prophet ﷺ visited Abbas while he was ill, and Abbas wished for death. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Abbas, uncle of the Messenger of Allah, do not wish for death. If you are a doer of good, then adding more good to your good deeds is better for you. And if you are a wrongdoer, then being granted more time so that you may seek to make amends is better for you. So do not wish for death."Yunus narrated it as, "And if you are a wrongdoer, then being granted more time so that you may seek to make amends for your wrongdoing is better for you."
حدثنا أبو سلمة الخزاعي قال أخبرنا ليث ويونس قال حدثنا ليث يعني ابن سعد عن يزيد بن الهاد عن هند بنت الحارث
أن النبي ﷺ دخل على العباس وهو يشتكي فتمنى الموت فقال يا عباس يا عم رسول الله لا تتمن الموت إن كنت محسنا تزداد إحسانا إلى إحسانك خير لك وإن كنت مسيئا فإن تؤخر تستعتب خير لك فلا تتمن الموت قال يونس وإن كنت مسيئا فإن تؤخر تستعتب من إساءتك خير لك
