She heard from her who said, "We performed the pilgrimage and then returned to Madinah. We visited Safiya bint Huyayy, and we found at her place some women from Kufa.The women said to us, "If you wish, you may ask and we will listen, or if you wish, we will ask and you may listen."We said, "You ask."So they asked about various matters concerning a woman and her husband, and about menstruation. Then they asked about nabidh made in clay jars.She said, "You people of Iraq have pressed us much about nabidh made in clay jars. What harm is there for one of you to cook her dates, then mash them, then strain the liquid, then put it in her waterskin and tie it shut. When it becomes sweet, she may drink it and serve it to her husband."
حدثنا عفان قال حدثنا جرير بن حازم قال حدثني يعلى بن حكيم
سمعه منها قالت حججنا ثم انصرفنا إلى المدينة فدخلنا على صفية بنت حيي فوافقنا عندها نسوة من أهل الكوفة فقلن لها إن شئتن سألتن وسمعنا وإن شئتن سألنا وسمعتن فقلنا سلن فسألن عن أشياء من أمر المرأة وزوجها ومن أمر المحيض ثم سألن عن نبيذ الجر فقالت أكثرتم علينا يا أهل العراق في نبيذ الجر وما على إحداكن أن تطبخ تمرها ثم تدلكه ثم تصفيه فتجعله في سقائها وتوكئ عليه فإذا طاب شربت وسقت زوجها
