A close relative of Umm Habiba died, so she called for a yellow perfume and rubbed it on her forearms, saying, "I am only doing this because I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," and Hajjaj said, "because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'It is not lawful for a Muslim woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for more than three days, except for her husband, for whom she mourns four months and ten days.'"Zaynab also narrated this to him from her mother, and from Zaynab the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, or from a woman among the wives of the Prophet ﷺ.
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر قال حدثنا شعبة وحجاج قال حدثني شعبة عن حميد بن نافع قال سمعت
توفي حميم لأم حبيبة فدعت بصفرة فمسحت بذراعيها وقالت إنما أصنع هذا لشيء سمعت رسول الله ﷺ وقال حجاج لأن رسول الله ﷺ قال لا يحل لامرأة مسلمة تؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر أن تحد فوق ثلاث إلا على زوجها أربعة أشهر وعشرا وحدثته زينب عن أمها وعن زينب زوج النبي ﷺ أو عن امرأة من بعض أزواج النبي ﷺ
