It reached her that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whenever a Muslim is struck by a calamity and says, 'Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me in my calamity and replace it for me with something better,' Allah will do that for him."She said, "So I said this, and Allah rewarded me in my calamity. But who could replace Abu Salama for me?" When her waiting period ended, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ proposed to her.
حدثنا وكيع حدثنا إسماعيل بن عبد الملك عن عبد العزيز ابن ابنة أم سلمة
أنه بلغها أن رسول الله ﷺ قال ما من أحد من المسلمين يصاب بمصيبة فيقول إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون اللهم أجرني في مصيبتي واخلف علي بخير منها إلا فعل به ذلك قالت فقلت هذا فآجرني الله في مصيبتي فمن يخلف علي مكان أبي سلمة فلما انقضت عدتها خطبها رسول الله ﷺ
