Ablution is required from what fire has touched. I mentioned that, or it was mentioned, to Marwan, who said, "I do not know whom we should ask about this when the wives of the Prophet ﷺ are among us." So he sent me to Umm Salama, and she told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to pray, took a piece of meat on the bone, tore the flesh off the bone with his teeth, then prayed without performing ablution.
حدثنا عبد الرحمن قال سمعت سفيان قال سمعت أبا عون يقول سمعت عبد الله بن شداد يقول سمعت
الوضوء مما مست النار فذكرت ذلك أو ذكر ذلك لمروان فقال ما أدري من نسأل كيف وفينا أزواج النبي ﷺ فبعثني إلى أم سلمة فحدثتني أن رسول الله ﷺ خرج إلى الصلاة فتناول عرقا فانتهس عظما ثم صلى ولم يتوضأ
